A hop skip and a jump

Lauren –

And that was that! Part I of our trip has come to a close. We spent two amazing months in Southeast Asia and couldn’t have topped it off better than recouping in Sydney with our friends. But before long it was time to say bye again and hop on the plane to the US – our first stop on our trip to Mexico. We couldn’t wait!

We landed in San Francisco in the early afternoon and quickly rushed out of the airport. We only had 18 hours in SF and we were going to make the most of it. My cousin Ollie and his wife Louise very kindly let us stay at their apartment and we couldn’t wait to see them so we jumped into an uber and zoomed off through the pristine streets (I’ve never seen so many Tesla’s in my life!).

San Francisco felt very Euro-American, both David and I had never visited the city before and we were blown away with the feel of the place and already were sad that we didn’t have longer to explore. We said hi to Louise who was working from home (Ollie would be home later and we were going out for dinner) and quickly dashed out again to fit in a few hours of exploring.

We went for an amazing walk around Land’s End National Park within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a(very) windy and wild trail with stunning views at every turn. We felt so lucky to have got to spend just a few hours here.

Next we jumped on the bus (we felt very local) and rode into the City to take a peek at the famous rolling streets (I also had to buy some new sneakers as my old ones didn’t survive the Rinjani trek).

Before we knew it it was already dark and we raced back to meet Ollie and Louise for dinner. We went to an amazing little local restaurant with some of the best food we’d had on the trip! It was so lovely to catch up with both Ollie and Louise and hear about their lives in San Francisco.

Then that was it! 18 hours flew by and before we knew it we were back at the airport ready to tackle the next big part of our trip – Mexico!
